Le PUP




Le Parc Urbain des Papillons (PUP) est un site expérimental unique dédié à la biodiversité urbaine, situé dans le 14ᵉ arrondissement de Marseille sur le domaine de la Tour des Pins. Aménagé en 2012 sur une ancienne friche mise à disposition par la Ville de Marseille, il a été conçu pour favoriser les papillons grâce à des plantations adaptées : plantes nectarifères, sources de nourriture pour les papillons, et plantes hôtes, indispensables au développement des chenilles.
Chaque année, des suivis scientifiques y sont menés afin d’observer l’évolution des communautés de papillons de jour et de mieux comprendre les dynamiques de la biodiversité en milieu urbain.
Porté par le Laboratoire Population Environnement Développement (LPED), le PUP est aussi un lieu de sensibilisation à visée pédagogique. Il accueille scolaires, étudiants et grand public pour découvrir les enjeux de la biodiversité urbaine.
Enfin, le PUP constitue aussi un espace de formation pour les gestionnaires et futurs professionnels de l’environnement, en les initiant à des pratiques de gestion raisonnée des espaces verts. Découvrir le PUP

Les papillons de Marseille



Le livre « Papillons de Marseille » constitue un outil de détermination des papillons présents dans la ville. Il permet l'identification de 71 espèces observées lors de travaux de recherche menés dans des parcs et des friches urbaines. Chaque fiche est illustrée de photographies des œufs, chenilles, chrysalides et imago, offrant ainsi une vision de l’ensemble du cycle de vie des espèces. Cet ouvrage a été conçu à destination des étudiants, institutions, professionnels, bénévoles associatifs et de toute personne curieuse de la biodiversité urbaine. Découvrir le livre

11.09.2026 [hal-05747233] Mechanical Thrombectomy in Ischemic Stroke With a Medium or Distal Arterial Occlusion source : papillon

Importance Evidence regarding efficacy and safety of thrombectomy in acute ischemic stroke (AIS) due to medium or distal vessel occlusions (MDVOs) is lacking. Objective To evaluate the benefit of thrombectomy, in addition to medical treatment over medical treatment alone, in patients with an AIS related to a primary and isolated MDVO. Design, Setting, and Participants Randomized clinical trial conducted at 22 stroke centers in France from November 2021 to April 2025, with planned enrollment of 488 patients. The trial has been stopped after the planned interim analysis on the recommendation of the data and safety monitoring board for futility and increased rate of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage with thrombectomy. Eligible adult patients had an AIS due to a primary MDVO within 8 hours of symptom onset or within 24 hours of last seen well if no hyperintense signal was present on fluid-attenuated inversion recovery imaging. Intervention Thrombectomy in addition to medical treatment (n = 123) or medical treatment alone (n = 121). Main Outcomes and Measures The primary end point was a good clinical outcome at 3 months, defined as a modified Rankin Scale score of 0 to 2, assessed by an independent, blinded assessor. Secondary end points included mortality rate at 3 months and adverse and serious adverse events. Results Of the 244 patients randomized (median age, 75 years [IQR, 67-81]; 56% male; median National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale score, 8 [IQR, 6-12]), 100 of the 123 patients in the thrombectomy group (81%) received thrombectomy and none of the 121 patients in the control group received thrombectomy; 217 (89%) completed follow-up. At 3 months, 72 of 116 patients (62%) in the thrombectomy group had a good clinical outcome vs 81 of 119 patients (68%) in the control group (odds ratio, 0.73 [95% CI, 0.40-1.31]; P = .29; adjusted absolute difference, −6.8% [95% CI, −19.4% to 5.7%]). The incidence of symptomatic intracranial hemorrhages was higher among the 100 patients who actually received thrombectomy than in those who did not (11% vs 3%, P = .008), as was incidence of subarachnoid hemorrhages (13% vs 2%, P < .001) and embolus migration (5% vs 1%, P = .04). Mortality rate did not significantly differ between the 2 groups (6% vs 8%; P = .49). Conclusions and Relevance Thrombectomy did not lead to a higher rate of good clinical outcome at 3 months compared with medical treatment alone in patients with acute ischemic stroke related to an MDVO. Hemorrhagic complications were more frequent after thrombectomy. Trial Registration ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT05030142

24.08.2026 [hal-05725786] ERGA-BGE genome of the Spanish moon moth Actias isabellae Graells, 1849: a nocturnal lepidopteran protected by the Habitats Directive source : papillon

High-quality reference genomes are critical resources for understanding biodiversity and supporting conservation efforts. We present the chromosome-level assembly of the Spanish moon moth, Actias isabellae (Graells, 1849), a nocturnal lepidopteran protected under the EU Habitats Directive. The assembly spans 0.56 Gb across 31 pseudomolecules, including the Z chromosome, with a contig N50 of 18.9 Mb and a scaffold N50 of 20.4 Mb. The mitochondrial genome was also assembled into a 15,247 bp circular sequence. Annotation identified 11,805 protein-coding genes and 2,238 non-coding genes, with a BUSCO completeness of over 94%. Notably, no W chromosome was detected, suggesting a ZZ/Z0 sex determination system. This reference genome provides an essential foundation for studying sex chromosome evolution in Lepidoptera and enables advanced population genomics monitoring of this protected species. More broadly, it contributes to ongoing efforts within the European Reference Genome Atlas and the Earth BioGenome Project to harness genomics for biodiversity conservation.

17.08.2026 [hal-05719117] A synopsis of neotropical parasitoid wasps of Diaphania hyalinata (Lepidoptera, Crambidae), with new records from Guadeloupe source : papillon

Diaphania hyalinata Linnaeus, 1767 (Lepidoptera, Crambidae), commonly known as the melonworm, is a major pest of cucurbits in the Neotropics. Yet, a comprehensive review of the parasitoid wasps that may act as biocontrol agents of this pest is still lacking. An extensive literature review was conducted to compile the current knowledge on the identity, distribution, and biology of parasitoid wasps associated with D. hyalinata across its range. Eggs, larvae, and pupae of D. hyalinata were collected in Guadeloupe and reared to document the local parasitoid diversity. Among the 37 parasitoids identified in our review, eight were recovered during our field survey, all of which are new records for the island. These parasitoids were photographed and DNA-barcoded to facilitate their potential use in future biological control programs targeting D. hyalinata. The species Trichogramma pretiosa Riley, 1879 (Trichogrammatidae; egg parasitoid) and Schoenlandella montserratensis Kang, 2021 (Braconidae; larval parasitoid) appear to be promising candidates for the biological control of D. hyalinata in Guadeloupe. It may be also worth evaluating the effectiveness of two additional larval parasitoids, Eiphosoma dentator Fabricius, 1804 (Ichneumonidae) and Apanteles impiger Muesebeck, 1958 (Braconidae), while assessing possible non-target effects on local fauna. However, it is important to consider that the presence of the hyperparasitoid Aphanogmus fijiensis Ferrière, 1933 (Ceraphronidae) could undermine biocontrol efforts. Overall, it would be valuable to gain a better understanding of the biological and environmental factors (such as agricultural practices and landscape features) that enhance the natural regulatory activities of this parasitoid community.

La mémoire collective l’a bien oublié, mais le bagne fut une réponse administrative et judiciaire aux poly-condamnés français des XIXe et XXe siècles. Les écrits de Henri Charrière (1906-1973) dit Papillon, adaptés deux fois au cinéma, ainsi que le reportage photographique du médecin saône-et-loirien Léon Collin (1880-1970) donnent un aperçu de cette époque révolue où l’on pouvait être condamné à la déportation et à la relégation à des milliers de kilomètres de la métropole. Parmi ces condamnés figure Jean-Baptiste Courtot (1859-1893) qui, après un énième vol, fut envoyé en 1893 en Guyane française. Il s’enfuira du camp peu après son arrivée et mourra dans la forêt équatoriale. Courtot est le seul bagnard connu de Meursault.

02.02.2026 [hal-05354077] Phylogeny, systematics and evolution of mimicry patterns in Neotropical limenitidine butterflies source : lépidoptère

The Neotropical butterfly genus Adelpha Hübner exhibits remarkable species diversity and striking convergence in wing colour patterns potentially explained by mimicry, making it an exceptional model for exploring trait evolution and its relationship with speciation. To date, unresolved phylogenetic relationships hinder a comprehensive understanding of the evolutionary biology of the genus. Using a novel multi‐marker dataset combining one mitochondrial and 15 nuclear gene fragments, we generate the most comprehensive phylogeny of the genus Adelpha to revisit its systematics and investigate the evolution of mimicry colour patterns. Our dataset encompasses 83 of the 87 known extant species and six Limenitis species that were recently excluded from Adelpha (134 of c . 160 subspecies in total), collectively displaying 14 distinct mimicry patterns. We provide conclusive evidence that corroborates previous work on the polyphyly of Adelpha as historically conceived and describe the genus Adelphina Páez & Willmott n. gen . to stabilise the nomenclature. The comprehensive phylogeny provided in this study lays a solid foundation for future research into the processes driving diversification within these species interacting through mimicry. Ancestral character state reconstruction reveals the gradual evolution of mimicry patterns. The more common mimicry pattern IPHICLUS (forewing with orange subapical spot and white band) is inferred as ancestral, but repeated convergent evolution is also recovered. Evolutionary convergence is also observed for the second most abundant mimicry pattern, COCALA (orange‐white banded). Increased rates of mimicry pattern evolution are also found towards the equator. These results underscore the complexity of mimicry evolution in the Neotropical limenitidines, i.e., Adelpha and Adelphina n. gen. , emphasising the need to explore its interplay with other biotic and abiotic factors.
